ISLAMIC EDUCATION REFORM POLITICS IN INDONESIA: A CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES FROM A LITERATURE REVIEW PERSPECTIVE

Abstrak

Islamic education reform politics in Indonesia cannot be separated from the dynamics of national politics, social change, technological development, and the demands of globalization. Changes in political configurations across different historical periods have influenced the direction of policies, institutional orientations, and development strategies for Islamic education. This study aims to conceptually analyze the relationship between reform politics and the development of Islamic education in Indonesia and to formulate development strategies for addressing the challenges of globalization. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review design. The research data were obtained through documentary studies of books, scholarly articles, laws and regulations, and other relevant references, which were subsequently analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that Islamic education policy has evolved dynamically in response to changes in national political configurations, from the colonial period and independence era to the New Order and Reform Era. Furthermore, from an Islamic perspective, education politics is grounded in five main dimensions: strengthening faith, enhancing piety, cultivating noble character, developing mastery of knowledge, and encouraging righteous deeds. In the era of globalization, Islamic education reform needs to focus on strengthening educational democratization, developing an integrative curriculum, reinforcing character education, enhancing teacher professionalism, and developing adaptive governance of Islamic educational institutions in response to advances in science and technology while preserving their Islamic identity. This study provides a conceptual synthesis of the relationship between reform politics and the development of Islamic education, which is expected to serve as a reference for policy formulation and the development of a higher-quality, adaptive, and sustainable Islamic education system.
